A brave woman: Rosa Parks

Even this year we have started talking about people who fought for human and civil rights. Some days ago we spoke about Rosa Parks, a brave woman who contributed to change the conditions of black people in the U.S.A. We also read that one day, when she was going back home after a day of work, she sat in a bus and refused to leave her seat when the bus driver asked her to do so to make room for a white passenger.

She continued fighting to achieve the same civil rights white people had and at last, together with a lot of other people this was possible.

"At the time I was arrested I had no idea it would turn into this. It was just a day like any other day. The only thing that made it significant was that the masses of the people joined in" (Rosa Parks).


Rosa Parks was not alone and a lot of other people, men and women, joined her to fight for freedom.


There is a very nice movie that describes that time and let us know how life for black people was in the U.S.A. in the 1950s and 1960s. The film is "The help". If you have the chance watch it because it is really nice.

6 topics game

Some weeks ago we had this game with 3rd year students to review some topics that are useful both for the Trinity GESE 3 exam and for the end of year exam.


Procedure:

Before starting the game arrange the chairs in pairs facing each other.

1. Write 6 topics on 6  pieces of paper, then stick them on the board. You can write the topics directly on the board too.

The topics chosen for the game were: school, daily routine, home life and family, weather-times-dates, jobs and free time

2. Play some music and  have the students move and dance around the class.




3. When the music stops the students have to sit down facing and greeting each other.

4. The teacher rolls the dice and the students start asking questions according the topic in the number.

5. The teacher plays some music again and the students say "goodbye" and stand up.

In the following file you can read the questions you asked. Try to ask and answer these questions aloud: it's a good exercise for the Trinity GESE 3 exam.

Photo competition

Let's start taking pictures!

Here are the rules for the photo competition.

First and second year students will be involved in this competition in the following weeks and they have to take a picture of an animal (ex. cat, dog, fish, tortoise, butterfly, ladybird, hamster, bird, squirrel, cow, sheep, goat, rabbit, chicken, hen, pigeon, horse, donkey, worm, lizard,...).

Enjoy taking the picture and try to be careful and accurate when you write the description of the animal you have in the photo.
