The eTwinning project "Flat Stanley around Europe" got the national Quality Label and the European Quality Label as well. So this morning our deputy head master came to class III A and congratulated the students: they really did a wonderful job!
Welcome to teacher Chiara's blog! Questo blog è principalmente rivolto ai miei alunni con l'obiettivo di stimolare in loro interesse e curiosità per la lingua inglese che ci permette di comunicare con tante persone di culture diverse dalla nostra.

Quality Labels 2013-2014
Dear students here are the Quality Labels we got for our eTwinning projects.
To get a QL means to have done a great job, for this reason I want to thank you and to say "I'm really proud of you all" for all the efforts you made and also for all the fun we had together!
Learning English, being aware of the fact that we are part of a bigger world, knowing more about other cultures means to make efforts but also to enjoy each other company, share ideas and competences to grow up and become global citizens!
Here are the Quality Labels we have been awarded:
Project of class II A (now III A)
Project of class III G and II G (now III G)
Project of class III A (now attending High school)
A special "thank you" must be said to all my Italian and European colleagues, to the parents and to all the other people who collaborated with us

Flat Stanley around Europe: an overview
Parents of class II A(2013-2014)
Here is a general overview on our eTwinning project. I chose only some videos to let you have an idea of what your children have been up to this school year in eTwinnning. I know you followed our work with interest and also participated in some activities (videos and pictures) so I thought you could like this final map too. Enjoy and ... be ready to take part in another eTwinning project together with your children next year too!

Bridges over times and cultures: international meeting in Todi
Last 28th May I took part in an international meeting as an eTwinning ambassador.
The headmaster of the school "Cocchi - Aosta" in Todi, prof. Silvio Improta, invited me to talk about eTwinning and its importance within the new Erasmus + programme.
This was the final meeting of the Comenius project "Bridges over times and cultures" of the school in Todi and I had the chance of meeting several teachers from different European countries and my colleagues of Todi. We could share our experiences and ideas on European projects and opportunities.
Here is the presentation I used

Spanish Stanley is spending his Easter holidays with us in Italy!
Spanish Stanley arrived Thursday last week when we were already on holidays so he couldn't meet the students face to face but he spent his holidays with me, my family and my friends.
He stayed with us and experienced our Easter traditions (both in eating and in religious celebrations), he tasted "colomba" that is a typical Easter cake and opened a chocolate egg. He went around Terni, and Cortona, a little town in Tuscany where we spent Easter Monday.
Today he also met our headmaster as we went to Attigliano.
Even though he didn't spend time with the students physically he met some of them virtually thanks to facebook.
Here you can see pics of what he did.

Happy Easter to and from our European friends!
Some days ago students of class III A received Easter cards from their French friends of the eTwinning project they are involved this year that is "Presenting our national celebrities".
They prepared and sent Easter cards to them and got cards from them and after having read all the cards we displayed them in class as you can see from this presentation.
Today students of class II A received Easter cards from their Finnish friends of the Penfriend project and it was just like a party in class!

Comics and Mystery Stories.
Students of class III D and II D created stories using comics within the eTwinning project "Let's read and create comics".
In fact they invented the stories first and then realized comics. Students of class III D wrote their tales and then took out the endings leaving the stories to be completed by their French friends while the students of class II D wrote complete stories as it was also an way of exercises simple past.
Here is a video with the Mystery stories by students of Class II D
These are the stories by students of Class III D to be continued!
Working with another school is really great both because the students and the teachers can make new friends in Europe and also because we have partners to share our ideas, our activities and there are are people who become "readers" of our scary and mystery stories!

Greek Stanley has arrived!
Last Saturday I found Greek Stanley in my post box and welcomed him in my house.
Unfortunately I wasn't very well so he stayed at home with me all the day, he relaxed, listened to music and slept a lot!
Sunday morning, as I was a bit better, Greek Stanley came to church with me and my family,
after the Sunday Mass he had fun with the friends of the choir (they are high school and university students).
Here is a short video of Stanley's adventures on Saturday!
Greek Stanley in Italy
This morning he came to visit the other to schools where I teach and had the chance to meet my students both in Lugnano and in Guardea. I think he had fun!
Tomorrow Greek Stanley will go to Giove and he will meet the students who take part in this etwinning project, he will also have the chance to meet their family and have more adventures!

In the afternoon Greek Stanley attended teacher Sbaraglia's book launch "Le avventure del Vecchietto con la 600" (The adventures of the Old man and his 600) in Amelia, a little town near Giove, and could listen to the author himself reading some pages of his short stories: of course Greek Stanley didn't understand but our teacher of English translated everything for him!

Flat Stanley visited our school
Some weeks ago we welcomed Flat Stanely from France, Portugal and Norwey and they all visited our school.
We worked on the presentations of our school to show it to the friends from the other countries who take part in this project.
To create the presentations:
1. I divided the class in small groups;
2. the groups choose one or two rooms to describe;
3. a small group of students went around the school to take pictures bey themselves and with Flat Stanley too;
4. they all described the rooms;
5. I corrected the descriptions if needed, this means I sometimes didn't change their description if this was understandable;
6. some of the students, at home, created the presentations.
Here is the video Michele made
And this is a powerpoint presentation made by Roberto and Cristian

Flat Stanley around Europe (etwinning project)
This year students of class II A are involved in a very interesting etwinning project called "Flat Stanley around Europe"
Stanley is the name of a character created by the American writer Jeff Brown. It is a story of a young boy who becomes flat because his bulletin board fall over him one night. So when he wakes up he is flat and he can travel in an envelope and he can discover the world!
The main aims of this project are :
- to develop communication skills in a foreign language;
- to share information and learn how to connect on a virtual world;
- to improve ICT skills;
- to improve mutual comprehension and knowledge between European countries in order to overcome stereotypes and learn to be tolerant;
- to encourage pupils to know each other better and maybe become friends.
The teachers, the schools and the countries involved in the project are:
Each school has created a Flat Stanley and each month sends him/her to another country, so that Stanley can see where the students live, go to school, and experience a bit of their lives too.
In September, after having read the story, all the pupils created their Flat Stanley
and then we chose one of them to be our Flat Stanley.

So far we have welcomed three Stanleys: from France,
from Portugal
and from Norway
and we have sent our Stanley to Slovenia, Romania and Spain.
All the Stanleys travel in an envelope with their travel journals where each school write info on the students, on the country and on the activities Stanley has during the time he/she is in a country.
We have aslo created a poster where we stick each Stanley on his country so that we can see where he comes from at a glance.
When a Stanley comes to Italy he/she has the chance of being at school with us, having lunch in the school canteen, visiting the school, the students and the teachers' families and experiencing Italian life!

Premio nazionle eTwinning 2013

Describe a comics hero
Class III D is now working on comics within the etwinning project "Let's read and create comics".
Yesterday they started reading comics in groups and analysing the characters.
After having read some stories we discussed about the information to take into account when describing a comics hero and we created the following mind map.

We also though it a good idea to answer to some questions to know a bit more about the characters we read stories about:
1. When was it create?
2. Who created it?
3. What nationality is it?
4. Who are the main characters?
