Goodbye Nadja

Abbiamo chiesto a Nadja:

What are the advantages of being a Comenius assistant?
"Being a Comenius assistant has given me the opportunity to immerse myself in another culture and it has given me the advantage of experiencing different ways of doing things from the inside and thereby also understand the intentions behind different ways of teaching. When working with the pupils you learn a lot about language similarities and you learn a lot about yourself as a person too. Furthermore it is a unique opportunity to for the pupils to experience the authentic use of English in real everyday communication which is important for a future in an English speaking globalized world".

What will you take back home from this experience?
"During my stay the pupils, the teachers and I have created a lot of fantastic memories and experiences which I can take back home. I have learned a lot about the Italian culture regarding all the many positives but also about the challenges the Italian society and schoolsystem is facing these days. Thereby I also learned a lot about the positives and the challenges of my own culture. I was also inspired by different ways of teaching, for example the use of the programme eTwinning which is yet another great ressource available when teaching any subject.
I have had a once in a lifetime experience and I can only encourage other Italian and Danish schools to read about the programme and apply for an assistant so that other pupils, teachers and assistants can have the same amazing worth-while and educational experience".

Nel video di seguito potete vedere ed ascoltare fantastiche assistenti Comenius e favolose prof. amiche che vengono intervistate e danno la loro opinione sull'esperienza che stanno vivendo!

Our Comenius Assistant in the school of Giove

Last Thursday 24th October, Nadja, our Comenius Assistant, came to the school in Giove and met the students of all the three classes.
First she had a warm welcome in class II A where the students were holding a banner made by themselves using old sheets and very beautiful colors,

after that she answered all the questions the pupils asked her

At the question: "What is your favourite band?" she asked "Dizzy Mizz Lizzy" and, as we didn't know anything about them, we decided to surf the net and once we found a video with a song we listened to it, so we could learn something new about music and we now know something about this Danish rock band.

Before lunch the students played the mime game, using the present continuous tense, that we had just studied and all the pupils took part in the game very actively, had a lot of fun and practice English.

At 1.30 pm Nadja had lunch with all the students and the teachers in the school canteen and had the chance of experience our Italian way of being cheerful!

After lunch we had lesson with the children of class I A who also welcomed her very nicely and happily with a handmade card and a paper banner.

We showed her a power point presentation on Giove and some students told her some historical information on this village.

Later I told them a ghost story "The ghost of the little girl" that is a tale about a little girl's ghost in the castle of Giove,

and Rachele told her the legend of Penna in Teverina in Italian and Natalia translated it in English.

Finally we also had some activities in class III A where the students had cleaned the classroom and tidied the teacher's desk before we arrived! All the boys were waiting for Nadja near the window and gave her the card Lucrezia made and the awesome paper flowers Nicoleta created.

Then they asked a lot of questions and had a very interesting conversation with Nadja about the school system in Denmark and the differences between the Italian and the Danish system.

All the students had the chance of speaking English with Nadja, asking her a lot of questions and could also discover a lot of things about Denmark

and something even about Danish, the language spoken in this country.

Time really went on so quickly we didn't even realize it was time to go home!

THANK YOU NADJA
for this great day,
we hope you will come back
to spend another day with us!

Happy European Day of Languages 2012!

Today is the European Day of Languages and all around Europe people and schools celebrate it.
Speaking more than one language is very important both because we can communicate and because we can make ourselves understood.
In Europe we speak quite many different languages and it is really nice to be able to use some of them.

Watch these videos on the importance of learning languages and enjoy yourself!

Last year with some students of Lugnano and Giove we made a video saying CIAO in several European Languages, we liked making it a lot and we also learnt how to say this word in many other idioms.

Let's "e-Twin"!

The school year has just started and we are ready to start our four eTwinning projects too.
We have started with the first one that is "Happy European Day of Languages!".
This project wants to celebrate the European Day of Language (26th September) and students will send messages and postcards to other students of 85 different European schools and will receive postcards from all these school as well. In the message we wrote:

 "Hello friends!
We live in.......(city/town) in.......(country) and we speak ........(language)
Our school's name is........ (name of your school).
Happy European Day of languages! We love Europe!
Bye bye"

This message was written in Italian and we'll receive messages in many languages so we'll realize how many different languages European citizens speak.
After having written the message and decorated it the students cut and pasted addresses on envelopes, put stamps and sent the letters. They had fun and also learnt how to organize an envelope, and reviewed the names of the European countries and their nationalities.

European Day of Languages

Today is the European Day of Languages. In 2001 the Council of Europe decided to celebrate the importance of languages, the importance of being able to communicate among different people throughout Europe.

The overall objectives of this initiative are to raise awareness of:

  • Europe’s rich linguistic diversity, which must be preserved and enhanced;
  • the need to diversify the range of languages people learn (to include less widely used languages), which results in plurilingualism;
  • the need for people to develop some degree of proficiency in two languages or more to be able to play their full part in democratic citizenship in Europe.
You can find more info here: http://edl.ecml.at/

To celebrate this day in the schools of Lugnano and Giove the students made posters with different ways of saying CIAO.

To create the posters the students:
1. searched the net to find out the official languages spoken in the EU;
2. looked up in online dictionaries the word CIAO in the languages the teachers asked them to find;
3. wrote the word in balloons or in hand-shaped piece of papers and colored them according to the colors of the flag of the country the language is spoken;
4. glued the balloons on the poster, together with the logo and the stickers found in http://edl.ecml.at/.

We also made videos using the greetings we learnt.

Europe from a very "different" point of view!

I have a friend, or better he is a friend of mine son. He is also my neighbour, in fact he lives in a house opposite my house.
He is a "bit" strange! Last year he left from Terni and went to Cambridge travelling on foot!
This year he started from Cambridge and went to Norway by "vespa"!
Now I suppose you are wondering: "why is our teacher telling this story?"
For a very simple reason: this man travelled across several European Nations and he wrote about his experiences in his blogs. I think it is worthy to visit the blogs to have the chance to know some European countries from the point of view of a "traveller" of the 21st century!
He writes in Italian so ... have fun reading some of his posts!
