Schools Get Together With History: Quality Label

Dear 2 A students here is the Quality Label we have been awarded for the project "Schools get together with history". We worked really hard and were happy to work with Turkish and Polish students and teachers. I'm very proud of all the things we have produced and of course of you.

This is the certificate the National Agency gave to me on behalf of the school.

Goodbye etwinning friends

Schools get together with history ...

Tomorrow students of II A will have the last chat with eTwinning friends of the project "Schools get together with history". We worked hard and with enthusiasm to carry out the activities we planned for this school year and now we are at the end of this wonderful adventure. We could meet new people and "see" a lot of new faraway places. We hope we will be able to travel to these towns and villages one day and to meet personally the friends who "grew up" with us this year.

Chatting with Turkish and Polish teenagers

Yesterday evening some students of class II A and I had an other chat session with our Polish and Turkish friends. We had the chance of practicing English and of knowing more about the culture of our friends. In fact we came to know that yesterday, 23rd April, in Turkey it was Children day. The students read poems for this events. We told them something about the school trip to Milan and we chatted about our favouritte music, singers, football players and so on. In this way we discovered how many things we have in common and also cultural traditions. 

About 23rd April

"The 23rd April is Children’s Festival a children’s festival which was gifted to Turkish children by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of the Republic of Turkey, to mark the opening of the Assembly. The festival has been celebrated internationally since 1979. The Children’s Festival was first celebrated in Turkey on 23 April 1920, when the Turkish Grand National Assembly was opened. The Festival intends to contribute to the creation of a world where children can live peacefully by developing sentiments of fraternity, love and friendship.

The greatest aspiration of Atatürk, who saved his country from occupations and introduced reforms in all fields hence changing the viewpoint of the nation it was modernization, in other words, an industrialized country that the industry of the Republic which it was founded on was out of date and poorly equipped, Ataturk endeavored to achieve modernization through educational reform, and thus entrusted Turkey to the children and the youth. Atatürk knew that modernization could not be achieved in a rapid way; therefore, he presumed that the Turkish children educated at schools resting upon positive sciences could attain his goals. He believed his nation and lived for what he believed. This is the main philosophy of the 23rd April. Students of class II A are now presenting towns an cities of historical interest that are near our region  to their Polish and Turkish friends of the eTwinning project "Schools get together with History". As for the previous activity the made power point presentations working on them either alone or in paris. They had to search both for pictures and for some information using internet both at school and at home.

Giove presentation

Penna in Teverina Presentation

Here is a presentation of Penna in Teverina the students of class II A made for the eTwinning project "Schools get together with History".

Penna in Teverina and Giove are the two villages where the students taking part in this project live. They are near the bigger village of Amelia in the province of Terni, Umbria.

Chat, chat, chat!

Yesterday evening, from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm, I was in a very interesting chat session together with my Italian students and with Turkish and Polish students and teachers taking part to the eTwinning project "Schools get together with history".

We talked about a lot of things such as: actors, singers, books, sports and so on.
It was really nice because I  learnt a lot of new things about these topics thanks to the students and it was also nice to chat with the colleagues from countries that are closer then what we may think.

We talked about football players such as Lionel Messi and Burak Yilmaz.

Here I want to thank again our Turkish and Polish friends (students and teacher) and my students too to have taken the time for this activity that, in my opinion, is very important to improve both our language skills and our knowledge of other cultures.

Describing our school

The students of class II A worked in small groups to describe their school as a part of the etwinning project "Schools get together with History".
First they took pictures of the rooms that are in the school then they described them saying what can be found in each room and what we do there.

They prepared a file at home and then one of the students collected all the files together and created a power point.

Meeting our Polish friends

This morning we met our Polish friends online. As we did two weeks ago with our Turkish friends, we went to the computer room logged in in TwinSpace and chatted with our new friends.

The students talked about their favorite sports, singers, actors and football players.

They worked together and had the chance to agree on what to ask and, where needed, they also helped each other, or  asked for the teacher's help.

They really enjoyed the activity and have already become a bit more confident in using English as a "real" language.

No connection, no problem!

Yesterday we were supposed to meet our Polish friends but the chat room wasn't working so we changed plans and, as we were in the computer room the students started writing info about themselves adding blog entries in Twinspace.

 They simply wrote names, ages, nationalities, favorite subjects at school, favorite singers, actors and so on.










So even if we couldn't get in touch with our Polish friends, we worked on the project and at the same time the students had the chance to review and improve the English expressions they already knew trying to be as much accurate as they could, cooperating with each other and having a good time as well.

It was a nice experience for me too and I had been running from a student to an other trying to answer both their linguistic and technological questions!
