Creato con Padlet

2. Christmas cards and songs

Pupils created and sent Christmas cards via traditional mail and received cards from the other schools and also sang Christmas songs both in English and in Italian.

3. Mystery Skype

In this activity pupils used Skype and had a videoconference in which they had to discover the country of the students from the other side of the screen asking questions such as:

 ARE YOU IN EUROPE?
DO MORE THAN 20 MILLION PEOPLE LIVE IN YOUR COUNTRY?
 DO YOU BORDER AN OCEAN?
 DO YOU BORDER A SEA?
DO YOU BORDER  (name of a country)?
 ARE YOU LANDLOCKED?
ARE YOU NORTH OF/SOUTH OF/WEST OF/EAST OF (name of a country)?
 DO YOU LIVE NEAR ?
 IS IT HOT/COLD/SNOWY TODAY?
 DO YOU HAVE A PRESIDENT/KING/QUEEN?
 ARE YOU IN ?

Once they had discovered the country their friends came from they went on talking to each other and asking general questions such as:

- What's your favourite colour?
- Who's your favourite singer?
- What time do you start school?
- What are your favourite subjects?

and so on.

Students are enjoying this experience a lot and they all take part in it with enthusiasm and positive attitude. More activities to come in the new year!

Card trees!

Classes I G and I H of the school "L. Da Vinci . O. Nucula" in Terni celebrated the European Day of Languages within two etwinning projects as explained in this post some weeks ago.

To display the cards we got from the other European countries we decided not to create a cardboard poster but we wanted to be more creative and ... here are our "Card trees"

Talking about Pride and Prejudice and Jane Asuten

3rd year students studied the characteristics of the the Romanticism and of the novel at that time. They also studied the novel of manners and read some pages of "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen. Some days ago they watched the movie too and now it's the turn of English! As Jane Austen was English and her novels are very popular around the world still nowadays here is a padlet with some activities for my students. They can cary out the tasks I prepared for them and also add some info writing a post on their own.
So ... let's enjoy Jane Austen and her works!

the winner is ...

Congratulations
to Giulia Gallina
class III G "L. Da Vinci - O. Nucula" school in Terni.

The last activity our students have been involved in was "Stories from and for films" which saw students working in international groups. A group of students created the beginning of a story starting from the ending of one of their favourite film, then the other students from the other groups continued the story until the end. As students from Norway, Portugal and France are still going to school some of the stories haven't got an ending yet so ... start reading the stories and come back to this blog in a while to read the end!

Here are the links to read the stories.

Let's celebrate the European Day of Languages with us: final activity

The last activity of the eTwinning project "Let's celebrate the EDL with us" has ended some months ago with a nice activity for Easter. Students of class I H of the school "L. Da Vinci - O. Nucula" in Terni created, sent and received cards for Easter.
They created the cards together with the teacher of Art and wrote a message in English and Italian with the teacher of Italian.

Here are the cards we created

These are the cards we received.

This project was a wonderful experience for them because it helped the students to improve their English and digital skills but also because they became more aware of living in a bigger place that is the European Union where there are a lot of different people who speak different languages. Kids loved all the activities but the ones they liked best were the Skype sessions with Ukraine and Romania.

Bleak House: an audio book!

Students of class II H of the school "L. Da Vinci - O. Nucula" in Terni created an audio book of the Novel "Bleak House" written by Charlse Dickens.
This activity was part of the "BFG: Books for Friends are Great" etwinning project.
The pupils chose to read this novel and after having read it in small groups they created storyboards using the app  http://www.storyboardthat.com/ to let their French friends read and enjoy the book.
French pupils did the same with another book "Deadly Jobs".
After the storyboards Italian students also created an audio book using spark.adobe.com.
The book is not perfect, there are both spelling and pronunciation mistakes, but the students had the chance of reading, creating storyboards and also practicing their reading skills.

Here is the result.

Bleak House: the storyboards!

Students of class II H of the school "L. Da Vinci-O. Nucula" in Terni read a children version of Bleak House written by Charles Dickens as an activity for the etwinning project "B. F. G. - Books for Friends are Great".
They worked in pairs or small groups and read a chapter of the novel each. After reading they created a storyboard on paper with the most important event of the chapter they have read.
Once they had the paper storyboard ready they used the app storyboardthat to create their own storyboard online.
It was a long and quite demanding work for them but they were engaged and did a great job.
Here is the result.
