Christmas cards: an etwinning project

First year students are involved in an etwinning project about sending and receiving Christmas cards.
The students created beautiful Christmas cards with the teacher of Art

and wrote their Christmas wishes and some information about their Christmas traditions together with me (their teacher of English).

Deciding what to write on the cards

The main aims of this project are:
- to discover Christmas traditions from other countries;
- to give info about Italian traditions in English;
- to write some personal info about themselves in English;
- to develop friendship about schools of the countries involved in the project (among both teachers and students).

This is the etwinning certificate of the project

Here is a map of the countries we are sending the cards to

In  this pictures the students are writing the cards.

And here they are finishing decorating the cards.

The cards are ready and in a few days they will be sent.

English school library

Dear students,
you'll borrow English books from the English Library at school this year too.
When you borrow a book you can have it for a month or 2 weeks and, after you read it, I recommend you to fill in a book report.
You'll give the book report to me the day you bring the book back and then you will have your work corrected and graded.

People's personality

Students of class III A and D are studying how to describe people's personality and this afternoon together with students of class III A we designed this map.

For homework the students will write a text about a person who important for them following both the map above and the following one.

Here you find some exercises on this topic. Try to do them and learn as much as you can!

I bought this postcards a long time ago in Brussels and I put it here for you so while you read and learn more adjectives to describe personality you'll have fun too!

The house

We studied "the house" with students of class I D last week. And first of all we brainstormed words connected to the rooms of a house and this the map we created. We also put some furniture but not all at the same time.

In fact in a different lesson we added furniture in all the rooms as you can see in map 2.

The students then exercises to say what there is in their houses using the structures "there is", "there are", "there isn't", "there aren't", "is there", "are there?"

Examples:
In my bedroom there is a bed, a desk, a computer. There are some books, two wardrobes, some CDs and some toys.

Affirmative from              Negative form                     Interrogative form

SING.      There is a ...                   There isn't a ...                         Is there a ...?
PLUR.     There are ...                    There aren't ....                        Are there ...?

Here you find some more exercises to improve your knowledge about the house and "there is - there are".

Imagine: match pictures with words

This is another very nice activity Lucreazia and Riccardo of class II A have created for the etwinning project "A song a month".
After having listened to the song and done the other activities here is a "match pictures and words" game". The pictures have been drawn by the students themselves.

2nd chat

Yesterday evening the students of class II A had the chance of chatting together with their new Turkish firends. of course they used English to communicate and in addition to personal questions such as

How are you?
How old are you?
Have you got brothers/sisters?
What's your mum's/dad's job?
Who's your favourite singer?
What's your favourite song?
What's your favourite subject?
Have you got pets?
What's your favourite colour?

they also asked and answered to questions about school.

So yesterday we discovered that our Turkish friends start school at 8.30 a.m. and finish at 2.30 p.m.. They have 10 minutes break like us and don't go to school on Saturday and Sunday.

They have Christmas holiday, long summer holiday but do not have Easter holiday.
The Turkish students and teacher told us that today they go to school because is Ataturk's dead anniversary and sing their national anthem and read poems.
As Italian students didn't know about Ataturk we discovered he was the president who founded the Republic of Turkey and died in 1938.
Here you can read more on Ataturk
http://www.biography.com/people/mustafa-kemal-ataturk-20968109

The Italian students told their friends about school and holiday in Italy too.

The chat was a great opportunity to get to know each other, to become friends, to share experiences, but also to learn more about the culture and the history of another country.

So...

to all of you who took part in this fantastic experience!

Things to do on Holiday

Students of class III A worked on a mind map about things to do on holiday.

They started from this mind map

and brainstormed ideas in class.

Then they developed the map by themselves at home and in the following lesson all of them added an item under each box.

This is the map we created all together.

Now with this map they'll prepare to speak about holiday in class and write a short text too.

Imagine: a word search

Several students of class II A created a word search with words related to the song "Imagine".
I collected all the activities and made a bigger word search including all the words they wanted to be there.
Here is the game.

to all the students who worked on this game.
